  Re: Linux Certifications

I wonder if that's because of the relative "newness" of the various certs or because they're not being publicised by a large monolithic company or because not enough managers/HR departments know what Linux is or if Unix people in general rely on (...)   Re: Linux Certifications

(...) I have never heard of people getting jobs, getting rejected for jobs, or getting a higher salary based on RH certs. I _have_ heard of people not getting jobs at least partly based on the fact that they were MCSEs. Again, take that as you will. (...) (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Linux Certifications

(...) Hey, as my manager once said (when I was asking if I should look into MCSE, way back when), "it can't hurt." :-) -Steven (URL) (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Linux Certifications

(...) Fair 'nuf, and thanks to Matthew for the pointer to Sair. I know we use MCSE as a minimum screen for some positions, didn't know if anyone is - or is considering in the future - doing something similar when looking at Unix candidates. -Steven (...)   Re: Linux Certifications

(...) Agreed. But what about affecting salary? (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Linux Certifications

(...) Right now, I haven't heard of _anyone_ taking these and actually getting a job because of it. Let alone missing out on a job due to not having it. Take that as you will. Jasper (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

The RH shot looks correct. That's what I'm used to. KL (...) (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Linux Certifications

(...) There are a few others. A company called Sair has one. Check out <URL:(URL). There's more out there, but don't come to me right at this moment.... Red Hat's has both the advantage and the disadvantage of being distribution specific, where I (...) (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Why are my fonts broken?

(...) Actually, it does. Oh, this is going to be confusing when SGI releases their XFS filesystem for Linux. And I'm already using a _different_ filesystem called "XFS" for AFS. *sigh* (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Why are my fonts broken?

(...) Check out: <URL:(URL). It's Nov '99, so pretty recent. It's actually got particular advice about Netscape, which I hadn't known and am now going to go experiment with. But it seems to apply to xfstt and doesn't say anything specific about xfs (...) (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Linux Certifications

Have any of you looked into certifications in the Linux space? Red Hat appears to have a program(1), but I don't know what else exists and/or how valuable this/these certifications are being viewed "out there". -Steven (2 URLs) (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Why are my fonts broken?

I was just digging through looking for something else today, and ran across (URL) which implies that it's a no-go, but if you've found something that says yes then more power to ya - just let us know how! :- (...) my 6.0/6.1 hybrid (6.0 (...)   Re: Why are my fonts broken?

(...) Do you have any URLs/pointers/tips/Howto's on this? I didn't see anything in the RHL docs or online. Maybe I'm not looking for the right thing. Any magic keywords? :) I did find a Mini-Howto on TrueType with XFree86[1] but it seems to be a bit (...) (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Reading/posting to LUGNET - an easier way for me?

(...) You just need to make sure that the "From" line matches what Todd has exactly. (slrn needs to be patched in order to be able to cancel LUGnet messages properly, though.) (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Reading/posting to LUGNET - an easier way for me?

I'm looking for some advice. I'd like to improve/streamline my way of reading and posting to LUGNET, but I'm not sure how. There are three computers I use, at various times, pretty much equally: a Sun Solaris box at work, and two Macs at home (for (...) (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Why are my fonts broken?

(...) Yes, this is true. Or some more Type 1 fonts. (...) The problem is that there's very few scalable fonts installed. So it's making do with bitmapped ones, which it can't actually scale. Sometimes it pretends to scale bitmapped fonts, but that (...) (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
