Check out: <URL:http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/FDU.html>. It's Nov '99,
so pretty recent.
It's actually got particular advice about Netscape, which I hadn't known and
am now going to go experiment with. But it seems to apply to xfstt and
doesn't say anything specific about xfs (what a terrible choice of names, by
the way), which is what Red Hat uses.

Yeah, I think that all you need to do is uncomment or add
"/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ttf" to the "catalogue" entry in
/etc/X11/fs/config.
And of course have some fonts there with the proper fonts.dir, etc.
My take is that I'm legally allowed to use the TTF fonts that I purchased
with the Win95 license for this computer. I don't see why not.

They look fine. But the font support under Linux (and really Unix as a
whole) generally isn't on par with that for MacOS or Win32. It's definitely
one of those areas where a lot of work needs to be done. Of course, one of
the key problems is that while there are a lot of freely available TTF and
Type 1 fonts, very few of those are any good.
