  Re: Fellowship

(...) Yes, well it does. But there is some dispute among Tolkien scholars about just how long Gandalfs toes were. Some claim that his toes reached about to his belt, based on scientific evidence relating toe length to thickness of eyebrows, while (...) (23 years ago, 21-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Fellowship on Film

First of all, do NOT take any small children to see this film. I would say probably 10 would be the youngest who should see it, and that is pushing it. Younger kids will have nightmares for weeks, possibly years, if they are subjected to this film. (...) (23 years ago, 21-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Fellowship

(...) Speaking of which, one little thing that bugged me all through the movie: The Dark Lord's stronghold is apparantly not Mordor, but is in fact Morrrdor. Roll the first "r", but definately not the second. Ah well, it's better than finding out (...) (23 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Ape Linkin'

  Fellowship

A few spoilers: 1. Fellowship is the first part of a trilogy 2. There will be two more movies in the trilogy 3. Gandalf looks suspiciously like Magneto 4. Elijah Wood is four feet tall in real life 5. Samwise is *not* voiced by Roddy MacDowell 6. (...) (23 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Lord of the Rings movie

(...) I'm picking on that scene because I just read some of The Two Towers, where Gimli quickly become Galadriel's staunchest defender. And of course it's crucial to the theme of uniting the races despite their old grudges, which the films do try to (...) (23 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Lord of the Rings movie

(...) All I meant was that the director, Peter Jackson, seemed to be paying a little tribute with his visuals to 'Star Wars' -- and from the audience noises on opening morning, I suspect there are visual in-jokes for former Peter Jackson fans in (...)   Re: Lord of the Rings movie

(...) Despite it being a "trilogy" Tolkien wrote it as one long book and this has always been the chief hurdle in turning it into a movie. But there was no audible sound of disappointment at the showing I saw (or audible snickers in the wrong (...) (23 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Lord of the Rings movie

My random thoughts on it below: I just saw this film tonight and I have no significant experience with the material before this, although I may have seen those cartoons from the 80s which did not make that much sense to me then.   3 Words For Christmas

The UK chain Marks and Spencer is running a TV advertisement right now which asks the viewer which three words sum up Christmas for them (the ad concludes that the viewers’ three words should be "Marks and Spencer").   Re: Lord of the Rings movie

After seeing it the second time, I'm starting to glow. I better give it a third chance. The second time through, I notice some evidence of shortened scenes.   Re: If you're an AFOL and you know it raise your hand (WAS: Blacksmith Shop)

(...) Hmm... I can't decide whether I'm hoping this is a joke or whether I'm hoping it's NOT a joke (in which case I'll be requesting the recipe Rosco!). Maggie (who also occasionally gets stumped in the absence of the smiley) (23 years ago, 20-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)
