As the movie progressed, they asked me questions every once in a while --
'How did Janeway get in this film?  Why is she an admiral?  How do the
Romulans know about the Borg?'

Not sure of all the details (because I'm only a part-time geek), but I
presume Janeway made the film for continuity's sake and because Jeri Ryan is
busy with Boston Public.  As far as the Romulans & Borg, there was some TNG
episode regarding a bunch of Federation outposts scooped up along the
Neutral Zone in Borg-take-all style.  Presumably some Romulan outposts also
got grabbed.
Of course, that all took place before the events of "Deja Q," so the
informed geek might wonder about the chronology.  Best not to wonder too
much, I guess.  Star Trek has never been too strong on consistency or
continuity.

Yeah, that's what I explained to them.  In 'Star Trek' time, Voyager would
have been home for a year or two before the events in this movie
happened--presumably getting Voyager home mostly intact would have gained a
promotion for Janeway.

The really sad thing is when Riker was talking about the time he first met
Data on the Holodeck in the very first ep--"What was that tune he was trying
to whistle--I forget the name of it" and I start whistling
'Pop-goes-the-weasel' and my friend elbows me in the ribs, then I hear about
3-4 other people whistling that in the theatre...

I almost wonder if that was a geek test, to see which zealots in the
audience would take the bait.

And why no mention at all of Lore!  That was the part that bugged me.

Yeah, that was really annoying.  If they'd only said "well, at least it's
not Lore."  Of course, Picard did refer to Soong's use of clever names for
his androids, but that's oddly non-specific.  They could also have taken the
opportunity to have another Data/Soong interaction on the holodeck, or
perhaps to have Data contact his "mother" and ask about some of the other
pre-Data androids.  At least there is on-screen precedent for those earlier
models.

    Dave!

And Weasely, I mean Wesley Crusher--his dialogue scenes got cut, though you
can still see him in a few scenes.  I'll be the one to admint that I
actually liked Wesley, after he left the show and just did guest stints.

Speaking of Wes, wasn't he off with the Traveller?  The whole Marquis
thing... didn't Wes leave Starfleet?  But here he is, back, in uniform...
that's one point I couldn't figure out.

Guinan, not prominent,  but what are ya gonna do

Pulaski was suppose to be in it but I didn't see her at all.

and what's with Beverly in most of these movies having no good role to speak
of?  Once again she was just filler in this movie--Deanna is fine and dandy,
but I like Dr. Crusher!

Once again, the "even number" Star Trek rule pervades--no matter about the
points above, it was a really good movie.

Not enuf quoting classic literature, however--"Hey Ahab!" was one of the
better lines in any Star Trek movie. (Irving does not count as 'classic
literature'!)
