Tim,
Do you mean this in a general sense or are you specifically referring to JLUG?
A person has to consider why they want to join a clique. If it is to change the
group and its dynamic, then they may be in for trouble. And yes, I agree there
are cliques who are not willing to accept specific people for a multitude of
reasons some may be valid and some may not. If you cannot join, then too bad, it
is out of your control.
As far as I recall, nobody has ever been socially rejected on JLUG without
making themselves unwelcome by their actions. People who have tried to change
the direction of JLUG have isolated themselves. JLUG evolved into what it is
today by the lack of direction that its members have come to know and love. If
you want an online LEGO community with structure and defined rules, LUGNET and
plenty of other places are available. If you don't, there is JLUG, proof that
anarchy can be civilized at times [1].
