It is certainly coarse, but I usually dont apply the label humor unless
something is actually funny.

Well, chacun à son goût. At least Janey and her bandogs
|
Wow, bandogs... great word! Oh how I wish it was true... the power I could
wield if it was. Looks like Rene just came up with a new slogan...
JLUG - Currently Recruiting More Bandogs
(This is humour. Now while I dont expect it to be funny to anyone else but
myself, that does not negate the fact that it was the intention of the opening
dialogue, subtly it is also trying to set the mood for a post which I deemed I
should make, but showing I am not harbouring any deep seeded resentment towards
the contents of the posting.)

decided to do mischief
on their own platform and not here on LUGNET ;-)
|
Which was exactly one of the few reasons of having JLUG.
There are many posts there I do not personally support or even like, but that is
the reality promoting no censorship.
Would you take your grandmother into a strip club?? No, probably not, but you
might hang out in one on the night before your wedding with you best friend. If
you are vehemently apposed to such a place, do you go hang out in it? (Or in
this case, read it?) Do you hold the contractor of the building personally
responsible? What about the club owner? If it was not for his patrons and
employees, he wouldnt stay open very long. Sometimes in life there are needs
to be fulfilled.
I will not go into lengths defending the site here
(its been done before and) I
seriously, regardless of comments, as I have said since the day we opened the
doors I have absolutely no shame in providing that outlet.
Frankly, in my opinion, Lugnet is not the place for lengthy and repetitive JLUG
discussions. Although, as I have said in the past, every time someone here
complains our membership goes up, so please dont let me stop you.

I am surprised that anyone intelligent enough
to operate a computer would find what goes on over there even remotely
entertaining.
|
Obviously they find it entertaining AND are able to operate a computer. To
what extend that grants them intelligence is probably another debate :-P
|
I dont know how to operate a computer, I get my 7 year old to do it for me.
(again, this is humour, I dont even have a 7 year old)...
but my point is, (just as I believe Rene is implying), being able to run a
fairly simple machine does not equate intelligence.
All joking aside, and for the record I will defend my own honour (however
briefly)...
I do find some of it (notice I did not say all of it) entertaining, and in that
line of thought, I also only find parts of Lugnet (or insert other forum or site
here) entertaining as well.
I do think that my involvement and support in other areas, (say for example
here, or my local groups) should provide the concrete fact that I am not
personally malicious nor do I have an evil agenda with in this hobby.
While you may feel my intelligence is in question, I can assure you, I am quite
secure in my abilities to conduct myself in an intelligent manner when I deem
its necessary, expected, or it adds value. Regardless of my poor grasp of
spelling/grammar some days, I am also secure in my abilities to be articulate
and I am educated to a degree that not only has provided me a life I want,
afforded me the luxury of this indulgent hobby, but also accredited respect in
my chosen fields of expertise. Does any of this matter? Not in the least, as
far as I am concerned, which is why I dont feel the need to prove it over and
over to those that do not see value in the other efforts I have made or
successes I have had.
I would love to ask you to judge me by ~my~ actions and words, not by the
actions or words by those that use my club for their own interests or agendas,
but I dont seek anyones respect. I am the one that has to face myself in the
mirror.
I do respectfully ask you to consider...
Would anyone here like to be judged by the whole membership here? I respect and
love Lugnet but I wouldnt, because there are some posts here that are morally
questionable, cruel, petty, immature and mean spirited. Let us not forget those
all came to Lugnet with a pretty tight TOS and high expectations.
Lego is my hobby, not my life blood (or work.) I judge it that way and act
accordingly.

I have to admit, some of their virtual hen-parties are hard to digest, but
even the AFOL community is just a cross-section of our society...

Agreed.
