  Re: Democracy.... Dubya Style

(...) When uttered by Scott, "Easy" and "prove me wrong" don't belong anywhere near each other. He happens to be mostly right (about the Bush II Admin and the great stink emanating from it) this time, but when he's wrong about something, proving it (...)   Re: Democracy.... Dubya Style

(...) Whereas I usually concur with you, Larry, it seems as of late that Scott had developed a debate style in which his points are backed up and cited, as is hte case with this particular arguement. If the counter arguement to this debate is 'ride (...) (21 years ago, 19-Dec-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

  Re: Democracy.... Dubya Style

(...) I haven't forgotten, Lar! I was in "mock mode" with my comment with no intention whatsoever in engaging Scott on these topics. (...) I love the notion here in this group that if one produces a cite, it somehow validates an idea. Reminds me of (...) (21 years ago, 19-Dec-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

  Re: Democracy.... Dubya Style

(...) Just tossing out cites does not in and of itself "prove the case"... You need to actually make a cogent argument that comes to a particular conclusion, and the cites then serve as evidence in support of your claims, assuming they themselves (...)   Re: Democracy.... Dubya Style

(...) Cites validate an idea inasmuch as the idea has some substance supporting it. Whether or not the idea is valid is up to the contrary side to prove. As I hear in other avenues, "saying something is wrong doesn't make it wrong." I once read a (...) (21 years ago, 19-Dec-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

(...) Aren't puns "off-topic" for this newsgroup? ;-) JOHN (21 years ago, 19-Dec-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.pun, FTX)

  Re: Democracy.... Dubya Style

(...) FINE!!! I admit it (again)-- the US and Israel aren't perfect!!! I am so tired of the comparisons to perfection! It's stupid to discuss! (...) My presence in this NG hangs by a thread as The Fates saw away. If not for the participation of a (...) (21 years ago, 19-Dec-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

  Re: Democracy.... Dubya Style

(...) Well with both groups copied, they're on/off topic no matter what. Depending on where you want to take this, I guess. (21 years ago, 20-Dec-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.pun, FTX)

  Re: Democracy.... Dubya Style

(...) lol I applaud you, Pedro, for making puns in a foreign language-- a trick that many native tongues find elusive! Well done:-) JOHN (21 years ago, 20-Dec-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.pun, FTX)

  Re: Democracy.... Dubya Style

(...) For the record, I've always tried to provide cites! Scott A (21 years ago, 20-Dec-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

  Re: Democracy.... Dubya Style

(...) Unfortunately, sometimes they are cites of the caliber of the ones given in this post (URL) first one is an unattributed false (1) claim that tars by association(2) and the next one is facile... the cited material is not much more than satire (...)   Re: Democracy.... Dubya Style

(...) On this I concur. As stated earlier, sarcasm and humour have their places in debate and discourse--however, there has to be some substance--saying a point is stupid is fine and all--proving it is where the true debate lies. much snippage (...) I should note that there is good info elsewhere in that site, many of the arguments that Hubin makes against Libertarianism (in the guise of making arguments against the arguments advanced by libertarian macho flashers, there is (...)   Re: Democracy.... Dubya Style

(...) Not really. It was a personal recollection; as was clear in my post. (...) Was it not clear from my post that the cited page was reather light-hearted? (...) Your post was in direct response to mine; that should be clear to everyone? (...) (...) (21 years ago, 23-Dec-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)
