Does anyone else want to see this film as much as I do? I have seen a trailer
for this film which is supposed to depict the last hours of Jesus as he faced
his crucifixion. The plan has been for the film to be entirely in Aramaic and
Latin and without English subtitles! Gibson is supposedly relying entirely
on cinematographic styling to get the story across to people unversed in
either Aramaic or Latin. I dunno -- it just seems like such a ballsy approach
to the material. How can I resist?
Heres a link to what appears to be a lengthy discussion of the film on a
rabidly Xtian website:

Heres a less favorable cite, with a Jewish perspective:

Heres the trailer itself:

Art should make people think and reevaluate their opinions on things. I
cant claim the status of art for a movie I havent yet seen, of course, but
I am interested in seeing it. I think what intrigues me the most about it is
the seeming anti-commercial approach Gibson has adopted. Maybe, Im wrong
and some kind of crass commercialism will yet reveal itself. But Aramaic and
Latin and no English, not even subtitles -- cmon?!
Comments?

I say its about time that filmmakers start taking chances and make art,
instead of all this crass commercial crap.
I mean, Matrix comes out and then a slew of copycats... and appealing to, well
me, but thats a topic elsewhere--but bottom line it is all eye candy and fluff
with little substance.
So I will probably go see Gibsons film. I may not understand it, but I am
intrigued.
