Politicians are in the business of getting their party elected (at a high
level at least). I really don't think that it has to do with "racist
bigots", but more with the fact that traditionally, blacks vote against GOP
(I know, very bad gross generalization, but...). If you look at it that way,
it's "Why should we have something on the ballot that would bring in more
votes against us?"
I'd be willing to bet the same type of thing would happen with a non-race
type group (liberal, republican, pro-choice....whatever the group is).
