It's wrong for the context of the United States. Small-arms
control may be just dandy for other countries, but the US isn't
another country. The Constitution is part of the reason, but
it is in itself not enough justification--the Constitution can,
in theory, be changed, but changing the social context of the US
is (thankfully) much harder.
I don't know if my point came out in that, but people who say
merely that "gun control is wrong because it's unconstitutional"
aren't thinking the reasons through.[1] (And, of course, the equation
of "unconstitutional" with "wrong" is a little too triumphal for my
tastes--but then again, the US is the land of supposedly inerrant
triumphalism.)
Um, in short, applying lessons from the UK or Europe in gun control
to the US is like applying horticultural techniques to stellar
astrophysics (in applicability, not in scale).
