It is evident that the levels of gun use you enjoy in the USA is not
stopping criminals either. Do you not think for one second that gun control
may have the ability to reduce the numbers of guns which reach the hands of
criminals?

One can obtain a gun illegally more easily than one can legally.  If
the legal means were eliminated logically only criminals would have guns • then.

You recognize that this ridiculously popular mantra is a tautology, of
course?

It is oversimplifing the situation, I'll grant you that, but is essentially
true.  If it is illegal to purchase a firearm the only way to obtain one is to
become a criminal and break the law.  Of course as I stated, at present time
(without any hypothetical changes) it is easier for me to purchase a firearm
illegally than it is for me to do so legally.  Gun Control laws will only
affect legal purchases.

One might as well say that Internet access requires a computer, so
only people who have computers will access the Internet.

This isn't quite the same.  One is not going to go the local "Gun Cafe" to
defend oneself.

As for suicides, well even if I did care what someone does to themselves, I
doubt one would worry about breaking the law (purchasing a gun illegally) if
one was going to shoot oneself.  Never mind the fact that household cleaner
would work better anyway.

It is a falacy that people choose the means of their suicide solely on the
basis of efficacy.  Generally the choice is based, when the intent is
serious, on irreversibility, painlessness, or quickness of action.  A bullet
to the temple works a lot faster than a glass of drain cleaner and is
generally less painful.

Point conceded.

In any case, you're certainly right--someone who has seriously decided to
commit suicide will find a way to do it regardless of the law.

Exactly.
