  Re: Hotel Palestine

(...) The leadership of the army knew that the hotel was full of journalists, and avoided making it an explicit target. However I don't think that every front line soldier is given a map of every building and told which to shoot and which not to. (...) (21 years ago, 8-Apr-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Hotel Palestine

(URL) military officials said U.S. forces fired on the Palestine Hotel in response to sniper fire from various floors. It is not clear if the explosion was the result of the U.S. response." Comments to this: a) the hotel was across the river from (...) (21 years ago, 8-Apr-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Are you in or are you out?

Yeah, thank god we have the "edumacation" president now -- all that's gonna change! Spencer is not able to connect the dots like some of the other children in class, he ends up with a page of jumbled lines instead of a picture of duckie he can color (...)   Re: Are you in or are you out?

(...) You're right--I live in constant fear that a guy with a nickel-bag of pot is going to smoke near me. And those poverty-level criminals are much more dangerous than wealthier (and, therefore, acquittable) criminals. The racial disparity of the (...)   Re: Iran: For peace in the region? No! For a piece *of* the region...

(...) Actually I just learned from a previous post that you are a "booklet historian(1)" but I strongly agree on that one, and I wonder why an average American cannot see that one as obviously as any other non-American can see. US always declaring (...) (21 years ago, 8-Apr-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Are you in or are you out?

(...) Would you rather have those criminals runing the streets? or should they just be executed? (21 years ago, 8-Apr-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Iran: For peace in the region? No! For a piece *of* the region...

(...) I would not be so quick about declaring Iran as democracy. Do you know anything about how "oppressive" Islam can be? I don't think any "Islamic Republic" can be mentioned as a democracy of any kind. ý don't think any gowernment based on (...) (21 years ago, 8-Apr-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Iran: For peace in the region? No! For a piece *of* the region...

(...) I never saw such news in any part of the media during the period. It should be another case of intentional disinformation, either in your country or mine. Having both Fox News/CNN and NTV/Haber Turk (national news channels), and watching them (...) (21 years ago, 8-Apr-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: It's scarier if he actually believes his own nonsense.

(...) What is really odd, is that Glastonbury was Joseph of Aramathea's holiday destination of choice! (Note that I've never been to Glastonbury, and it may, in fact be a nice place to holiday. It just doesn't seem very convenient to Nazareth (or (...) (21 years ago, 8-Apr-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) If it isn't on television it can't be real, can it, now? Oh wait, what if it just had a web-site...would that count? -->Bruce<-- (21 years ago, 8-Apr-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: It's scarier if he actually believes his own nonsense.

(...) No! Really? And you think I would have known that with those really obvious question marks at the ends of the lines! ;-) There were those in Britain that *wanted* to believe that (whether they actually believed it I couldn't say). I only quote (...) (21 years ago, 8-Apr-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) These are questions, not statements - and the words to a hymn, not the declarations of a faith! (...) I don't know: Didn't Jesus visit people in the North America after his resurrection, and organise a church there? Cheers Richie Dulin (21 years ago, 8-Apr-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: It's scarier if he actually believes his own nonsense.

(...) And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountains green? And was the holy Lamb of God On England's pleasant pastures seen? Not to that extent. :-) Of course, all the nutcases left Britain (were urged towards the exit) and came (...) (21 years ago, 8-Apr-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: It's scarier if he actually believes his own nonsense.

(...) The examples you give there come from quite a long time ago, I think things have changed. Having lived in both countries I would say that Britain (at least the part I live in, the South East) is hugely more secular than most of the US. Having (...) US prison population peaks (URL) your own conclusions, but negative comparisons to Russia and China is not normally perceived to be a good thing. (...) David Koresh and Andrea Yates sought strength and guidance from prayer, as do (presumably) Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. So did the Templars and the Inquisition. That is *not* an indictment of faith in its own right, but it does point (...) (21 years ago, 7-Apr-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Iran: For peace in the region? No! For a piece *of* the region...

What a great post! A reminder about the debating definition of bias.
