Mega Bloks had their 2nd quarter conference call the other day.
As I expected, Vic Bertrand said Dragons (and Gyrofighters) were beyond
expectations. The new TV ads go on Cartoon Network Aug 18 for 12 weeks.
Otherwise the talk was pretty much by the numbers, with a little about
retailing and advertising events.
Marc Bertrand said they're getting products into Walgreen's, Kohl's, and QVC
(toddler stuff) and expanding to Italy and Spain. TV commercials will go in
Canada, US, UK, France, Australia.
Mega Bloks Girlfriends is a preschool line; they're partnering with
Nickolodeon and the TRU store in NYC (Fortress TRU) right now for Girlfriends.
They couldn't give out final numbers, but told the same general story about
construction toys outperforming the market, as was told at Toy Fair: 2-3%
growth for the toy market, but double digits for construction toys.
