Re: Thoughts on the UN "Racist" poster?

(...) As the UN page no longer has the image, here is a link with the image, and article about it, from (URL). (URL) direct link> Best, DaveG (19 years ago, 24-Mar-06, to lugnet.mediawatch, FTX)

Re: Thoughts on the UN "Racist" poster?

(...) I'm kinda baffled by the symbology. I don't know about anyone else, but when I'm trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle, I'm not gonna try to use a Lego brick to do it. If that makes me a racist, then so be it. a (19 years ago, 22-Mar-06, to lugnet.mediawatch, FTX)

Re: Thoughts on the UN "Racist" poster?

(...) And now it seems the UN OHCHR has taken down the image (or maybe it just moved). Anyhoo, the linked page no longer has the poster on it. I'm thinking someone gave the OHCHR an earful. Steve (19 years ago, 22-Mar-06, to lugnet.mediawatch, FTX)

Re: Thoughts on the UN "Racist" poster?

(...) Dejure it's out of copyright/trademark, true, but defacto it will be LEGO that will be influenced the most by any ill will engendered. Most people's first thought, I would expect, would be "hey those are legos" (with some small subset thinking (...) (19 years ago, 21-Mar-06, to lugnet.mediawatch, lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: Thoughts on the UN "Racist" poster?

(...) You're right, that one is certainly more clear about what it's trying to get across. And it's more appropos in using all minifigs to represent something, rather than using a construction element as something to be termed as different. I'm just (...)   Re: Thoughts on the UN "Racist" poster?

(...) Perhaps someone with better monitor-resolution can answer, but on my screen I don't see the "LEGO" logo on any of the studs. Since it has already been established in numerous court cases that TLG does not (any longer) hold any "trademark" on (...) (19 years ago, 21-Mar-06, to lugnet.mediawatch, FTX)

Re: Thoughts on the UN "Racist" poster?

Re: Thoughts on the UN "Racist" poster?

(...) I'm thinking that the picture, at least to me, misses the mark. You've got 11 puzzle pieces that obviously fit together to make something (exactly what that something is is lost to me). Anyway, there is this 12th piece that obviously doesn't (...) (19 years ago, 21-Mar-06, to lugnet.mediawatch)

Re: Thoughts on the UN "Racist" poster?

I doubt that the UN is trying to take a stand for the (URL) cartoonists> and free speech, since Louise Arbour - the High Commissioner for Human Rights - is already (URL) on record>: 'I would like to emphasise that I deplore any statement or (...)   Re: Thoughts on the UN "Racist" poster?

(...) I just came across this complete and udder BS. If I ever needed a definitive reason why I think that the UN is completely worthless and irresponsible, this is it. I think TLG ought to sue their worthless behinds. Then the US should kick the (...) (19 years ago, 21-Mar-06, to lugnet.mediawatch, FTX)

Thoughts on the UN "Racist" poster?

I'm wondering what other LEGO enthusiasts think of (URL) this poster from the UN> about racism. I'm having a hard time thinking it's coincidental that the symbol they chose for "odd man out" is a LEGO brick, given the recent cartoon controversy. (...) Eric & All, I am glad I did not see this thread until tonight and saw what LEGO came in at. : ) I think number 3 is especially good, and overall, it was a good review outside for the one guy thinking they were from France (Denmark silly!!!)   Re: I love toys - on VH1

Ahh cool, thanks, I was watching that the other night and had to leave before the program was over. I was curious about what place (not if) LEGO would come in at. Of course I was dragged away by many large amazonian women. The spirit is willing, the (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.mediawatch)

  Re: I love toys - on VH1

(...) Hula hoop? Though I really think that bikes should probably top the list, I can't really imagine that hula hoops had any great popularity after about 1960. Anyway, thanks for finding that.   I love toys - on VH1

Hey all, VH1 is doing a series this week called "I love toys", counting down the top 100 toys from our childhoods with 20 each night. I assume LEGO will be on the list somewhere.
