I think there has been a general feeling that one should try and
increase the value. One consideration of course is that since value is
an inexact science, you probably can't make an even trade, therefore,
one should generally err on the side of increasing value. If you didn't,
people would likely feel "well, my trade is close enough, the next guy
will probably trade more" and the boxes value will slowly decline (if
value was an exact science, one could indicate the overall value the box
is supposed to have, and if it currently is below that, you should try
an increase the value, but then that wouldn't be very fair).
