It's unfortunate that they are going that direction.  I thought it was great when they started
to renovate some of the older buildings downtown into apartments/condos.  The Mom and Pop stores
would have served their needs excellently.  Now they are building stuff without any character.
It's really sad- I used to enjoy downtown a lot.

Is the Hard Rock Cafe or was it Planet Hollywood still going to be built?

I think Pittsburgh is out of its depression of the 80s, but is growing much more slowly that other areas (most
notably, San Jose/Silicon Valley and Raleigh/Durham).  The relatively high taxes don't help, but it is really the
lack of jobs for young people that hurts the city more than anything else.

Slow growth can be/is a good thing.  The jobs for the young people is what's wrong with PIttsburgh.

(...) I'm not sure. I haven't heard much about it. I'm not sure Pittsburgh is big enough that those places would want a restaurant here, but I could be wrong. When were they considering coming here? I lived in Iowa from 9/97 'til 12/99 while I went (...) (24 years ago, 6-Jun-00, to lugnet.loc.us.pa.pit)
