Request For Comments: Proposal to set up a club for UK Fans of LEGO —Tony Priestman
This initial posting is to set up a framework & timescale for discussions aimed towards the formation of a formal club for LEGO fans in (& possibly around) the United Kingdom. THE PROPOSAL 1. It is proposed that there will be an initial period (...) (22 years ago, 6-Jun-02, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.general)

(...) Well done Tony. In the nature of forming constitutions etc., even with additional volunteers the timescale for the suggested process is a wee bit short. Is there anyway the number of steps can be reduced or the process begun earlier? The (...) (22 years ago, 8-Jun-02, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Request For Comments: Proposal to set up a club for UK Fans of LEGO —Tony Priestman
Ok. This is something that the steering committee could pick up. Perhaps I should have put something in about proxy voting :-) Again, the SC could put this in its proposal. Regarding the Steering committee, I have already said, but will reiterate, (...) (22 years ago, 8-Jun-02, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Request For Comments: Proposal to set up a club for UK Fans of LEGO —Tony Priestman
That's the big question. What would you like it to do? The first thing that comes to mind, following recent discussions here and elsewhere, is that it will be the conduit for discussions between 'us' (AFOLs in the UK) and 'them' (any other (...) (22 years ago, 8-Jun-02, to lugnet.loc.uk)

(...) I was wondering when someone would ask that very question :-) (...) A lot of these things can be done without formalising anything. A lot of these things can be done on LUGnet already. Formalising things has a price (in a number of ways). (...) (22 years ago, 12-Jun-02, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Thanks for this, Kerry. It raises a lot of good points. Apologies for you getting your own personal copy of this. More comments below.        I wonder if a lot of this can be avoided by not having subscriptions or any accounts at all. We manage perfectly well so far with everyone handling their own transport costs, and organising venues based on contributions on the day.            Re: Request For Comments: Proposal to set up a club for UK Fans of LEGO —Nathaniel Cross
I have to agree - I don't think we need any formal organisation. Lugnet works just fine. I specifically don't want to elect a committee or pay a subscription. Sorry folks. Nathaniel (...) (22 years ago, 12-Jun-02, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Request For Comments: Proposal to set up a club for UK Fans of LEGO —David Till
Only a few days left, so I better get my comments in. On the whole I feel much the same as Nathaniel - that Lugnet works fine, and we don't really need any formal organisation. But then I don't really like anything formal, and certainly wouldn't mix (...) (22 years ago, 25-Jun-02, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Request For Comments: Proposal to set up a club for UK Fans of LEGO —Tony Priestman
Yep. If expenses are outside the remit of the club, everyone will have to meet their own. If this was in the constitution, another part could say if it was decided at some point that funds were required for a project, a one off subscription could be (...)        (...)        I've attended a couple of fests, SCLF & TVLF2001, went to the RLD and am booked on the next one, (I can't make a meeting on the 11:Aug though). I think the idea of a formal group is a good one, as long as the subscription isn't too high. If we want (...) (22 years ago, 16-Jun-02, to lugnet.loc.uk)
