Here's an idea pending you might buy some yellow windows and lots of • 1x4x1.3
1/4-curve-top bricks.  It sure is easy to build the impossible in LDraw.
Anyway, maybe something in this design might be of interest:

James, I wondered if you'd rise to the challenge! That is excellent! I have
been inundated with offers of 2x2 yellow windows, so I'll give something
based on your design a go at some point

Want the MLCad .mpd file?

How are the vertical 1x6 black plates fixed at the bottom?

"Caught me".  In this picture, I've used quantity one of the 4081.dat
element "plate with clip light" in color yellow near the bottom. This is the
same as attachment at the top, but the "plate with clip light" color is
black at the top.

I'm not totally sure, but I think that the yellow lever base with gray
upward turned lever arm is nudged right up against the inside of the
right-hand-side 1x6 black tile.  The yellow "plate with clip light" is
attached to the left-hand-side 1x6 black tile.  There is a yellow 1x1 round
plate between the yellow "plate with clip light" and the round yellow lever
base piece.

The right-hand-side 1x6 black tile is intended to be tightly wedged between
the yellow lever base with gray upward turned lever arm and the trans-red
light dome.  I haven't real-brick-built this front end, but magnified looks
in MLCad indicate that the pieces should fit OK-- I hope.

This modified v1 has the 1x6 black tiles attached only at the top:

I also raised the 2 outside 1x2x2 yellow windows.  Thought they looked too
low in the other design.

If only one could get 1/4 curved top pieces in the quantity required to do
this sort of thing. I managed to get 30-odd at the Red Letter Day in blue at
LEGOLand Windsor recently, but even that wouldn't be enough for a 4-coach
train.

Nice find at the Red Letter Day. Blues and grays for your hoppers.  The look
is very nice.

Yeah, I really wish it were much easier to get 1/4-curved top pieces in
quantity.

Here's how I did the curved undersides on the wagons.
