Hi fellow lego fans.

I just found lugnet, after finally purchasing a Mindstorms set. I've been
doing some work on LegOS (an alternative to the program provided by lego). I
had lots of Lego when I was a kid (managed to keep a fair bit of it!!) but
what I really want to know is, wheres the best place in Oz to get lego? I
know Target & Myer have it, and DSE & TRU, but are there any other sources?
Does Lego do mail-order in australia?

Hi Ross,

Welcome to lugnet.loc.au !!

On a day to day basis, Big W is the best place for Lego, if there's one near
you; sets are usually 10% less than elsewhere, and old stock can go on sale
for 40-60% off. Target's just had a 25% off sale, and some sets were ~70% off.
Kmart and TRU usually sell sets for around RRP, sometimes a bit less, although
there are some sets that are consistently on sale for a large discount. TRU
also has the best range of sets.

Myer/Grace Bros and DJs are usually more expensive; they're only really worth
visiting when there's a clearance or sale, but they do have the largest sets
and a good range of Technic. Toyworlds (and other smaller stores) can be good
for older sets, which are often on sale. Garage sales, Trading Post, and
classified ads can be a good pointer to cheap older sets (or a messy heap of
well-chewed old bricks).

As far as I know, Lego only has mail-order in Australia for some technic and
train sets. Supplement packs aren't available anymore. We're all waiting to
see if Lego Direct makes it across the Pacific, and in what form.

hope that helps,
Dave

(...) Hi Ross and welcome! I think Dave answered everything quite well. What area are you from? If you're thinking of sticking around on lugnet you might want to consider filling out a roll-call. Just search for roll call in loc.au, copy someone (...) (24 years ago, 10-Aug-00, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.org.au)

David, Thanks for the info!! I'm mostly looking for Technics type stuff - its a bummer that supplement sets arent available anymore. What's Lego Direct? Is that just a US thing? Is it likely to come to Oz anytime soon? Now that I've re-found all my (...) (24 years ago, 10-Aug-00, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.org.au)
