Thanks for the email the tables we built are 13mmm MDF tops 1524mm x 1016mm in
size I will double check it to make sure but basically its 4 x 6 (32 x 32)
baseplates we use 19mm x 70mm dressed pine for the frames, the legs are 40mm x
40mm dressed pine from memory with 76mm strap hinges there is a 3mm X 19mm x
150mm Aluminium strap on each side that screws to the legs and table to hold
them in place, the tables stand about 75cm high which is great for the kids to
view.Tracks are placed directly onto baseboards given the price of track we have
an adversion to screwing track down as no matter how careful you are its likely
to get damaged at some point, some members have started to put plates under
their track to simulate ballast this is a gradual process as its not cheap.
Members build a scene on 1 or more boards to be part of the layout that way
everyone has control of their own parts as club layouts and financing can be an
issue, particularly when people have limited budgets and can conflict with their
own needs and desires, this way you can use parts from your own collection and
know where it is, we do lend and borrrow parts at times though from each other.
The layout is made to be easily transported and one board can be carried by one
person with ease, last years AMRA show it took 4 of us to assemble an 8m x 3m
layout in 1 hour. Transporting scenery is easy we box up building, parts,
baseplates, track etc, after we get the tables setup we then start adding the
Lego content to the layout. Total time is about 3-4 hours with all details added
strip down 2 hours, having buildings, scenery etc in boxes cuts down on damage
in transit and less chance of things being lost it also reduces the bulk of the
layout. The whole layout is drafted in TD before we setup to check track joints
tolerances etc we have figured out a foolproof system in regards to the
geometery of the track and configurations.
With the Australian models David Parkin one of the co-founders has just moved
to Brisbane and is keen to join BLTG he has made 3801 4-6-2 and a 4 car K set
EMU, he has a lot of projects on the books including an AD 60 4-8-2-2-8-4 Beyer
Garrat using Big Bens wheels, he is a talented builder that is always trying new
techniques including a 3 speed variable gearbox PF loco chassis to test ideas.I
will email you or mail you some drawings photos etc in regards to the boards
soon the design is very adaptable as you can have anything from 1 to 12 tables
for a show which makes it easy for us if we just want to do a small show or main
event.
In regards to the spice of late, I don't mind a bit of curry I can be served it
or dish it out Loc Au had been devoid of traffic for a while so we have woken up
like a bear with a sore head after a long winter, it has been rather amusing and
as a Stajinarian and former Jlugger I have thick skin, lightening wit and razor
sharp tounge, I never take the word of an individual as being from a whole club,
individuals have the right to opinion even if sometimes we don't like what
people say. I have always had a lot of respect for BLTG the amount of shows you
fellows have put on over the years is great and no small task, it would be nice
to get together one day for a show but it won't be easy with the distance and
logistics behind but lets hope we can do it one day, so no animosity hope to
hear from you soon.
