What is your occupation and who do you work for?

Chemical Engineer, currently before jobs (recent graduate)

What should Australia’s first larger private/public event/show/convention/fest etc be called? (Please, only three choices).

Oz-something (or something-Oz). If it is a ‘Brickfest’, it should be called Brickfest OZ, as opposed to SYD or MEL or WGA WGA or whatever.

Where should the event be held?

Would prefer Melbourne, but can see the logic of holding the first one in Sydney. So Sydney.

When should it take place? • June long weekend

How many days should the event take place over? Answering that, how many days would you attend the event?

3 (setup on the Friday night by residents of the host city?)

Should there be an entry fee/ticket and how much should the fee/ticket cost? How much would you be willing to pay?

Yes. $100 or so?

How many people do you think would attend such an event?

Well, since there’s 20 million people in Australia, 20 million+ (we are expecting people from other countries, aren’t we?)

Would you prefer it if the LEGO group/company were involved or would you prefer for them not to be?

Yes. To the first part of the question.

Would you like to help organise it? If so how would you like to participate?

Yes. By filling in surveys about a year before the event is to be held.

In all seriousness, I would like to help, but I don’t think I’d be the best person to have a huge hand in organising it. So, in any small way I can help, I will.

Would you want it to attract others from other nations?

Yes. The more the merrier.

How could/would the event be better than what other events around the world have to offer?

It’d be Australian and therefore automatically better.

Who would you like to attend?

Both AFOLs and public. I like the idea of only opening the event to the public for one day and keeping the rest of the time to ourselves.

What would you like to see at the event?

LEGO! (Yes, I know it goes without saying) Big displays in the different themes, guest speakers, workshops(?), some dopy idiot pull his finger out and finally finish The Utopian Dream...

How should it be organised?

I like the idea of having a major organising committee in the host city/state with smaller committees in the other states (and I’d possibly put my hand up to be a part of the Melbourne committee).

What sort of Audience should the event attract? • Everyone

If the event turned out to be a success, would you attend another? If yes, when? • The year after

If you would attend the next one should it be held in the same place again or another destination in another state?

A different location (Melbourne).

Would you donate any of your ‘unwanted’ LEGO to the East Timor Children? (If there were a deposit box at the event etc).

‘Unwanted’ LEGO? What is this ‘Unwanted’ LEGO you speak about? The only thing I’d want to give away with regards to the brick are the limits on my imagination and my incredible laziness.

If it is decided that this should occur (and I’d argue that it should, and that it should occur this year, rather than next), I’d probably buy a few sets to donate.

Do you think it would be a cool idea if LEGO organised a RLD (Red Letter Day - refer to UK posts) type event, for those who were interested?

If I get the gist of everybody else’s comments on this, a RLD is one where the AFOLs are treated to a day at LEGOLand. Is this right? If so, do/will we have a LEGOLand in Australia?

Do you think it would be cool if LEGO gave us a chance (if ever possible) to buy bulk bricks from the event?

Yes.

Would you like to buy stuff not normally available to us at the event?

Yes.

Would you like to see a ‘World Record’ type activity held at the event?

Yes. We should aim to be the first public LEGO meet held by AFOLs in Australia.

Would you like to see a Commemorative Brick, especially made for us, at the event? (Like the Promotional Duplo bricks).

I like the idea of having specially cast Australian animals.

What do you think would be the overall ideal event to be held for Australia’s first large event like this? (besides whatever LEGO already do and the National meets).

I’m not sure I understand this question.

What was the last event/show/convention/fest etc did you last attend that meant the most to you? What was the highlight of it?

Apart from the MUGS meetings I’ve been to, I don’t know if I can answer this. The highlight of any MUGS meeting is seeing everybody’s incredible MOCs.

Anything I have missed that you would like to add?

I would like to put the challenge to all Australian AFOLs to create a new Australian MOC to bring to this event.

-Matt (who is wondering if those log wall pieces would be believable as rusted corrugated iron if mixed with gray/dk gray log bricks.)
