In that case, you probably meant to say

Um that might be allowable ersatz HTML but it's poorly formed XML, that's
for sure, you have a dangling pedant.

I would do it this way:

<geek mode=pedantic>Wampa Ice Creature<lar>(tm)</lar></geek>

("pedantic" now becomes an attribute value for the attribute "mode")

Don't make me make up the DTD, ok?

PS This thread may be doing wonders for .loc.au on the quantity scale, but I
fear it's a losing proposition by any quality metric :-)

I think any thread (except thhreads in which the quality metric is itself
the main topic) that mentions the quality metric pretty much loses points on
that selfsame quality metric (1), or at least it should.

1 - by analogy with the notion that breaking the fourth wall can be overdone.
