  aslo: new Technic product shown!

Hi! I wonder why so far nobody has mentioned the new LEGO Technic product that is shown in one of the large pictures of the photo gallery. Looks like we will get more Cyberslam-like stuff later this year. I copied the relevant images into the (...) (24 years ago, 8-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.technic, lugnet.year.2001)

Re: LEGO Company Welcomes Adult LEGO Enthusiasts

(...) Well. Certainly that is a good thing for you, but it's also an exceedingly rare occurance. It also kinda misses the point of what I was writing, which is not "I want a Metroliner but don't want to pay"; rather, it was that with two collector's (...)   Re: LEGO Company Welcomes Adult LEGO Enthusiasts

(...) Of course interestingly, the colors of doors available have never before been available, so the value of the existing doors probably has only dropped a little. Now windows on the other hand, well, grey windows used to be close to the most rare (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: Custom Built LEGO Sets in 2002

(...) If you had read my whole note, you would have seen that I'm not saying TLC shouldn't have a CAD program (I think they should), what I'm saying is that the data file should not be the input to the parts ordering, that should just be a parts (...)   Re: Online LEGO users design their own sets

(...) Al of them ? That would be great... no, that would be gigantic. The sheer size of it demands very well designed index and search facilities. (...) Any limitations on avalable types of bricks with this program ? It would be perfect if the (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: Desirable parts (was Re: LEGO Company Welcomes Adult LEGO Enthusiasts)

(...) Actually, I'll probably Ebay off about 50 or so of them sometime next year - I'm keeping the colors I DON'T want in order to trade the parts for the colors I DO want. I need very few clear/blue/transblue/grey slats, need TONS of (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: LEGO Company Welcomes Adult LEGO Enthusiasts

Just keep a good watch on ebay, especially ebay.de. I managed to pick up a Metroliner, Club Car, 4539, extra circle of track, 10 extra straight track sections, and 2 track switches. No boxes, but all instructions. Cost? $160 SHIPPED from Germany to (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: Custom Built LEGO Sets in 2002

(...) Which one? If you say "LDraw" I swear I am gonna give Tim Courtney 100 lashes with a wet noodle next time I see him. www.ldraw.org puts WAY too much emphasis on ldraw itself which is arcane, hard to use, and well, antiquated. Oh, and did I (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.general, lugnet.cad)

Re: Custom Built LEGO Sets in 2002

(...) A bit harshly worded there, but basically I agree. If I was able to create something real nice (which I don't think has happened yet) I too would like a set of instructions for it, because although I was able to as a kid to assemble the 850 (...)   Re: Custom Built LEGO Sets in 2002

(...) But, from TLC's perspective, they need to *market* their product. A bunch of bulk bricks is low on the excitement scale for the GP. In fact, it looks like work! But selling a cool model or set, packaging it with flashy photos, colors, and (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.general)

Re: Custom Built LEGO Sets in 2002

(...) I have to admit, my LEGO CAD experience is limited to a single program. I picked what appeared to be the most popular and best supported, and dove in. Way too user-unfriendly, IMHO, so I didn't bother to check out what seemed to be the bit (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.general)

Re: Custom Built LEGO Sets in 2002

(...) Well, the data format is a bit arcane but I'm not sure I'd characterise MLCad (to pick my favorite) as "antiquated"... it's pretty slick. But that's just my opinion, of course. It's been years since I last played with AutoCAD. I'd ask this, is (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.general)

Re: Custom Built LEGO Sets in 2002

(...) Because some of use aren't so uptight about model designs that we feel the need to "protect" them from TLC, and would actually very much *like* to have instructions for our models, without having to suffer through an anitquated home-brewed CAD (...)   Re: Custom Built LEGO Sets in 2002

(...) Ahh, yes. Another use for the scrambler. Give it the parts list you want, and have it emit a model using them to upload to TLC to place your order. If TLC is smart, they will have the input be a parts list, and then tell us how to upload just (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.general)

Re: Custom Built LEGO Sets in 2002

(...) Yes! I meant to state this yesterday but I forgot. Many thanks Jon for nailing the issue so well with one stroke. Sell us the elements in bulk, or to order, and let us worry about the designs... -- Richard (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.general)

Re: Custom Built LEGO Sets in 2002

(...) I agree to some extent... I think the parents are very much to blame for this, though. I mean, who actually buys LEGO? Parents do, and most of them steer clear of the Classic line in favor of flashy themes. It's really interesting to listen to (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.general)
