6776... Is this True? —Mike Petrucelli
(URL) this announcement possibly be true? TLC is recalling Ogel's Command Center? Now I am forced to ask; why would the company grant real Terrorists a small victory by recalling this item? It is really quite sickening. If this is true, I hope at (...) (23 years ago, 22-Sep-01, to lugnet.lego)

(...) IMHO, I'd say that TLC is actually granting good taste a victory by pulling from the shelves this set. Regardless of the WTC, I don't think that its either appropriate or necessary for TLC to produce themes that rely on shallow violent imagery (...) (23 years ago, 25-Sep-01, to lugnet.lego)

James & All, (...) Well, I don't think the company is anymore, frankly. Most of their products are relying in some ways on some kind of violence, whether it is Alpha Team, Bionicle, Star Wars, etc. I think they lost most of their "non-violence" when (...)    (...) Interestingly, no Wild West set shows any interraction between the "Indians" and the "Cowboys". (23 years ago, 27-Sep-01, to lugnet.lego)

(...) True. Although the Union vs. Indians chess set in the Ultimate Lego Book drops below the level of good taste, IMO. james (23 years ago, 27-Sep-01, to lugnet.lego)

Re: 6776... Is this True? —Jason Spears
(...) Union vs. Indians = White vs. Black. Chess sets have always had two sides. Neither color was ever considered good or bad. Why does a Chess set with two opposing sides mean that anyone in particular is bad/wrong. The union and the indians DID (...) (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: 6776... Is this True? —James Simpson
(...) Yes, but Union vs. Indians has a clear adverserial implication. It might not offend you or I, but how would a Native American kid feel about it? (...) But that is very simplified history. Our country should absolutely be appalled at the crimes (...) (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: 6776... Is this True? —Daniel Staudt
i think what we have here is a confusion of violence with conflict violence is death and destruction. bombs destroying buildings, guns killing people. what lego has created in the past and now is conflict. pirates vs. imperials. conflict but they (...)      (...) And the cannon are just for firing 21 gun salutes... And surely, the falling masts on the Red Beard Runner and the Armada Flagship are just a nifty feature to make it easier for the crew to change the sails... I just don't buy the idea that (...)    (...) Ummm, 8007, 8008?? They actually encourage you to buy both so the storm-trooper can shoot C3PO in the chest, and watch it's (OK it *is* a 'droid) head & arms get blown off.
