Please take a look at the set# 6490.

It is obviously a "modern times" set (a yellow Land Rover type jeep) and
this set includes a rifle as a trophy gear. Human Skull and bones in the
mouth of the alligator is another issue for this set, maybe..:-)

Perhaps the rule is - guns for fighting always happens in the past or future.
Guns in the present are NEVER for fighting other 'figs, just for hunting or
target practice, as this set seems to represent. i think lego is staying away
from modern war toys more than guns in general.

Chris

First I want to thank Selçuk for bringing this set to our attention.  I know
that I have ranted about this before so I won't go into much detail here.  I
just want to reiterate that I don't really like TLG's apparent stance on guns.

I have no problem if TLG were to decide no guns period!  I would actually
applaud the move.  The problem I have is that if they are going to have guns
themes where it is only "historically relevant" I think that is to fuzzy a line
to try and walk and not cross it.  My favorite example (until Selçuk pointed
out 6490) is the Adventurers series.  There is no reason you need guns in the
Adventurers line.  Indiana Jones had a whip didn't he?  Adventurers could have
easily been done without guns and I don't think many people would have cared.

My other favorite is the Ninja sets.  When was the last time you remember
seeing a Ninja that needed a gun?  Again TLG could have not done guns in the
Ninja series and no one would have cared.

I guess that it may have been tough to do Wild West or Pirates without guns but
my argument is either you do guns or you don't.  In my mind there is no
inbetween.  I think either give the police in town and troopers in Star Wars
guns/blasters or do away with guns alltogether.

I don't really care one way or the other because it is up to the parent to
teach a child right and wrong not TLG's.  It also does not matter if TLG
includes guns or not because kids have vivid imaginations and will pretend to
have guns whether TLG includes them or they don't.

My honest oppinion.

(...) Actually, Eric, quite the contrary. Guns (Arquebuses) were extremely important in the history of Feudal Japan. It is not uncommon to read accounts of 3000-4000 gunners taking place in large battles in the 1500's. In this regard, including guns (...) (25 years ago, 5-Nov-99, to lugnet.general)
