A few comments on the survey:
A couple of questions seemed like trick ones to see if you are really an AFOL -
like which themes are part of TLC, and which ranges would you recommend to an
8-year old boys parents. I hope no-one recommended Clickits or Belville!
I wondered about Nano - is this a rival brand or are TLC thinking of making
half size bricks? Id welcome that as long as they fitted with mormal bricks in
a similar way to normal bricks with Duplo, since I could do more detailed
models.
Of course I want quality over price, or Id buy MB (spit!) but, like many of us,
I want higher quantities at greater discount. Parts by the 10000 for fractions
of a penny/cent, like electronic components in the RS catalogue.
I want the Lego brand to continue to stand for uncompromising quality, but to
increase competitiveness by not faffing around making useless big pieces (that
make sets more expensive by being big and heavy and in smaller production runs),
but useful versatile small ones that Ill buy in bulk. The new 1x2 brick with
studs on the sides is a good example of a small useful piece. Shorter technic
pins would be useful too.
Yes, I hate buying sets at RRP because the price is too high. I wait till
theyre old and at least 1/3 off. A recent trip to Toys R Us yielded 10 sets
for £89 that would have cost £247.50 at RRP, using vouchers on top of discounts.
There are very few sets that I buy in their first 6 months on the shelf. I know
what parts are useful and I buy sets with them in when they are cheap. I try
never to be desperate to get a particular piece, cos thats the way to get
ripped off. I tend to look for the bargains, then go home and decide whether I
can justify returning to buy them on the basis of usefulness of the parts. I
know what sort of bargains each local store has, and when.
I think the survey should have made more of PaB, which is cheaper by weight than
parts from sets because all the parts you buy are parts youre likely to use.
In any case, the last year has been a bit different because of buying up large
quantities of old grey parts in packs, due to impending obsolescence. Therefore
Ive actually spent more because of the colour change! (Well, not really, but
Ive plundered discounts more in order to get more parts for my budgeted
amount).
Other than that, it would improve my feeling of belonging to the company part of
the Lego community if the route for contributing parts designs was well-defined,
with feedback from TLC and opportunities like have your piece designs made and
well give you this weight of your new piece in return for owning the design and
the right to sell sets that use them.

| (...) I wondered that as well. At first I thought they ment a micro-scale theme, like the LEGO factory contest, but then I saw that they also included megablocks, and remembered that Nano was a clone brand. I wanted more nuance to those questions (...) (20 years ago, 16-Apr-05, to lugnet.general, FTX)
