Two reasons I was looking for were:
ONE: personal economic situation required decreased spending (loss of job,
purchase of a house or car, new child, etc.) TWO: current collection is
sufficient for my building needs

Ditto to both those reasons. 1) I have enough LEGO to build almost anything I
want, 2) I dont have any money to spend, 3) if there is a certain piece or
two Im missing, I buy them on Bricklink.

I felt the same on that. Im generally uninterested in sets, as I tend to
build the model once and then tear it down as MOCfodder. So Ill buy a set
when the things I want (new pieces, colors, figs) outweigh the things I either
dont want (e.g. speciallized pieces that dont fit my building style) or that
Ive got plenty of already. Otherwise Ill just bricklink the thing I really
wanted.
