Don't know if there's much interest in this, but I'll offer anyway:
In my 3D AutoCAD class we model LEGO-ish parts - parts based on the LDraw
measurement system, but do not exist as real LEGO.
If anyone would like one of their "wish list" parts modeled as a 3D solid, you
can send me specs and I can give them to students to model.
By "specs", I mean either:
-sketch with dimensions
-dat file or picture of existing part with description of modification
Keep in mind most of my students are not AFOL (and I'm not terribly
knowledgeable about the names of LDraw parts) so the more descriptive you can
get, the better. If you say, "Just like XXXXXX" we would need to see that part
too..
Things you could do with these files:
-admire them for all the glory that they possess :)
-run them through various converters (already discussed ad nauseaum) and turn
them into .dat files. Of course these would still be unofficial, but whatever.
Note that for some of these parts it's probably easier to just modify an
existing DAT file.
-send them to CNC or STL machines.. In the past I've offered to make prototypes
myself, but things here at OCC have changed drastically and I no longer have
free access to that machine :( My dreams of a pitchfork empire dashed!
We could give you the files, renderings, etc. If you sent MOC directions we
could even assemble your MOC and render it, etc. (within reason - the largest
one we've done to date had 60 parts and it nearly killed the student). Note that
all of this would be in native AutoCAD file format (DWG or DXF).

| If you could have any 5 parts in a color that it doesnt exist in (i.e. 5 part/color combos that dont exist), what would they be? For me: 1.16 teeth technic gear wheel in black 2.minifig airtanks in green 3.Train, Window 2 x 6 x 2 with Glass in black (...) (21 years ago, 19-Mar-04, to lugnet.general) !
