I think you may be right, though! -- I tried putting a few 1x2 bricks into a
couple of the new torsos, and while it seemed like it'd hold better, it sure
didn't seem to, just as you'd said.

Another weird thing is that I saw one old torso and one new torso in the
same set a couple months ago! :-o
