  One last BrickShelf suggestion...

As I've seen no substantial effort by the BrickShelf administrator to interact with the community (which is VERY eager to help) in finding a solution to BrickShelf's bandwidth problem, I will offer one final suggestion. Not having statistics in (...) (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) Well, I for one would abandon BS if this happened, unless links from LUGNET pages were allowed (and I'd probably remove my LUGNET pages too, as they'd be even more boring without the BS pics). ROSCO (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) I think I'd have to agree. I really do wonder how to host pictures. I tried on my personal web site, but it just isn't practical. One time I posted someone else's pictures, but had to take them down after a few days because my personal web (...) (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) Hmm...I just noticed that some of my images no longer show up on my FTX site, and that Brickshelf.com didn't register on my broswer at all. (The search turned up negative. Does anyone else have trouble loading the page?) Perhaps it's just my (...) (22 years ago, 16-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) If BrickShelf started making you pay for the service of off-site deep linking, would you abandon it as well? There are (much faster, more reliable) image hosting services out there, they just cost money. -Tim (22 years ago, 17-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) I'd have to compare the fee and services provided against other hosts. In general I have no problem paying for a good service. Currently, aside from the bandwidth problem, Brickshelf provides all the services I need, for the best price. (...) (...) (22 years ago, 17-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) Personally, I think if BrickShelf became yet another pay-for-webhosting site, it wouldn't be what it is. People put their images on BrickShelf BECAUSE it's free, and because it's nicely unlimited (save moderation). If Kevin made it a pay site, (...)   Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) And nothing stops it from being a free AND paid site. Different levels of access, and the paid accounts help offset the costs of maintaining the server and connection. (...) Stuff can't be free forever. I'm not advocating BrickShelf going 100% (...) (22 years ago, 17-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) Why not? (And that's a serious question). (...) Fine. I'll choose to be in the free section. (...) I think that any reply from Kevin would only net him more criticism. He took a lot of criticism when the building instructions went down...but (...) (22 years ago, 17-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) Well, its certainly not a proven fact, but its an observed trend. See: (URL) not going to debate you on that, though, that's for sure. (...) Doesn't bother me any. (...) If it was a respectful reply, adequately addressing the concerns of those (...) (22 years ago, 17-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) Tim, don't confuse lack of response with lack of concern. In other words, the fact that Kevin isn't responding to these threads (at the level you would prefer) does not imply that he does not care. Nor does it imply that he isn't doing (...)   Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

Thanks Lar... a nice and respectable response. (...) It does... but, for the record I guess, I'm not frustrated in the sense that I go around all day consumed by BrickShelf's deterioration. I do admit I'm baffled by the situation, though, and I know (...) (22 years ago, 17-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

(...) <snip> (...) Leaving aside whether the suggestions are actually 'helpful' or not... Part of the community, definitely. Representative of the community, probably not. Speaking on behalf of the community, definitely not. <snip> Richie (22 years ago, 17-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

I have all of my Lego content at (URL) which is hosted by DixieSys. I pay a whopping $4/mo for my space/BW. I managed to get in on a 2-for-1 sale, so I have 6Gigs/mo for that $4. Registering vfaq.org cost me less than $20. You can easily create a (...) (22 years ago, 17-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) I'd gladly donor a small amount of money to Brickshelf even though I don't use it for my own pictures (sure, I have an rather filled account but it's outdated and all new material goes to my site only, someday I'll remove all pics but one and (...)   Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) I know that a great many people use Brickshelf for image deep linking (myself included). The bandwidth demands for a site with as many pictures as Brickshelf can be pretty impressive for someone who has to pay for bandwidth. As an example, (...)   Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

If only there was some way to donate unused bandwidth. I've paid for up to 400MB/day for 2 years on pair and filled about 25 of it on average. I would hate to have a surprise 5GB day to pay for though. Some kind of cgi that would serve only x copies (...) (22 years ago, 17-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) Doesn't Pair drop the busiest day? I don't think it would be very ethical or practical, but we could have brickshelf rotate each day between each of our accounts and not have to worry about it again. :) Ben Roller (22 years ago, 18-Dec-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: One last BrickShelf suggestion...

(...) Is it just me, or has Brickshelf been running very smoothly today? Albeit I'm on a T1 line, but over the past few weeks, that sort of thing hasn't been any better than a 24.4 modem when cruising the shelf. Anyone else getting these nice (...)
