In the past, I often bought sets that I wanted and built them later on a
rainy day. Apparently from now on, I have to immediately build the set or
check the parts inventory before my refund/exchange date passes. 27 years
with virtually no mishaps, and now 2 sets in the same line? Did they fire
the QA staff?

So now I can't buy a set in April for someone's birthday in say, November,
because if I do and it's missing pieces the receipt will have long-since
expired. And most of my 'LEGO-casual' friends simply can't be bothered to
track down LEGO customer service.

Sorry to hear of your frustration.  In my similar number of years and sets
collecting, the only problem I had was with a few "warped" 2X plates in the
first monorail set.  I made do with them though, after a bit of the same
sort of negative feelings you are having.

A word in favor of TLC though: In the case of your latter example, I suspect
TLC (or the nearest affiliate to you (such as Lego Systems in the US)) would
send you any missing or defective parts without question even if your store
receipt was several months old.  There have been a number of stories posted
here before where unhappy builders were treated with great sympathy once
they contacted the Lego customer relations staff.

Keep the Faith,

PS  You should keep the misprinted minifig head.  Misprints like that are
bound to be valuable collector items in years to come (as happened with the
Black Falcon figs with reverse printing).

(...) Oh, I have absolutely no doubts that LEGO customer service is fantastic. Although I never needed them to replace missing parts, I did call them once to tell them my cats had destroyed my new Gungan Sub kit; they especially found the new (...) (22 years ago, 28-Aug-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) What's up with the Falcons? Is the falcon merely facing left instead of right? And is the print only on the torsos, or on shields too? And how much are they worth -- I don't see any on BrickLink? thanks, Chris FUT = l.m.appraisal (22 years ago, 29-Aug-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.appraisal)

The Good: I was with some friends at Toys R Us, and they had one of the Hasbro Ep II Zam Wessel speeders on sale (it was complete and intact, but no packaging). It was only $4 (down from $18)... can't go wrong with that sort of discount, right? I'd (...) (22 years ago, 27-Aug-02, to lugnet.general)
