With the recent announcement of the Lego Classics line, a few questions have
popped up in my head.

Does this announcement indicate anything larger in the "Big Picture" for
Lego? Or is this just an easy way to make the more knowledgeable fans, young
and old, happy and make a quick buck?

Could these sets be "testing the waters" for anything besides more reissues?
I'm sure if the Classic sets sell well, Shop at Home will request other sets
for reissue. Lego should have no problem fulfilling the requests assuming
the molds are there and production lines don't have to be altered much.

But could these sets be market research for a return to the more detailed
theme-oriented sets?

Another question - why make these Shop at Home exclusives for everywhere but
Germany? I have never been overseas, but what is different about the German
market? I could see these sets selling well in the States in stores that
have excellent inventory control. Target, for example, seems to move
inventory very well.

(I have actually had this question for a while. My parents brought me a 1980
European train catalog
http://www.brickshelf.com/scans/catalogs/1980/c80eutr/index.html . As a
child, I could not figure out why these great trains were not available in
the US! I still have it in good condition and it is by far my favorite
catalog.)

Overall, I think Lego Direct is moving in a good direction and I love the
Classics idea. I'm just throwing these questions out to the community for
fun and discussion.

Hi all, just today someone from the german fan community posted his latest experiences while ringing up S@H services: The S@H lady says that they are selling very well in the sculptures and train categories! And S@H will concentrate more and more on (...) (23 years ago, 23-May-01, to lugnet.general)
