Hi Larry,
seems that I wasn't very correct in writing down my thoughts. Sorry, I will try
again:
First of all you might see things different as a "quest" because you know the
way things work in the US. So I am used to the german way and I find it
normaly.
1.) LEGO in german housholds: Indeed, LEGO used to be the toy EVERYBODY has at
home! Even if it was just a small collection. But I don't know about the
situation today, after all that juniorization from the last years? But
listening to shop sellers from the smaller retail shops, they are very
unsatisfied with LEGO company. (No sets with "normal" bricks, houses, etc.)
2.) TRU is becoming bigger in Germany as well, but I would say they are one of
many stores and retailers selling LEGO.
3.) Small shops - yes there are still some, but their economical situation is
getting worse. It's like all other fields: Big networking organizations - like
Wal Mart - makes it very difficult for small independent shops to survive.
4.) No idea? You know the US situation....
Does that explain why TLC will sell the classic sets in retail markets in
Germany? I don't know. Probably Germany was the most efficent market for TLC in
the past, regarding the amount on sold sets in comparisson to the number of
children and adults (80 million) who are customers.
Does that help? If not, please let me know!
Kind regards
Holger
