AFOL? Please don't call me that.

Funny thing happened this past weekend when someone called me an AFOL. It took me back for a second and I actually felt a bit offended. I wasn’t sure why till I though about it some. I don’t consider myself a “Fan of LEGO”, but more a “Fan of (...) (23 years ago, 16-Mar-01, to lugnet.general)

(...) I am basically the same as both of you when it comes to LEGO. I haven't bought a set newer than 1998. But funny thing, we post to LUGNET, read other articles, reply to posts, and discuss LEGO...... Sooooo that would make you AFOLB's --- Adult (...) (23 years ago, 16-Mar-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: AFOL? Please don't call me that.

When I hear the word "Fan" I think of 14 y/o girls with rooms covered in N'Sync posters. I do not have my room covered in LEGO bed sheets or, big red logos on the walls. I read LUGNET to share ideas and see how others are using the bricks to build (...) (23 years ago, 16-Mar-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: AFOL? Please don't call me that.

(...) I disagree (that it is not a big deal). Your point is valid. I think most of us are AFOBs (Adults Fond Of Building) more than AFOLs. We all grew up with Lego and appreciate the products, but in the end, building, creating and expressing (...) (23 years ago, 17-Mar-01, to lugnet.general)

OK, just to get in the conversation, I think I'm a TFOB Teen Fan Of Building, whether its LEGO or mega blocks, I just like to build!!( I do prefer the LEGO though) Gary Frank Filz <ffilz@mindspring.com> wrote in message (...) (23 years ago, 17-Mar-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: AFOL? Please don't call me that.

(...) Well, I'll just add that I've been a collector of Lego for over 18 years. Some would say I am a fanatic....I spend a good deal of my income (disposable and sometimes non-disposable income) on Lego - mostly now through E-bay! I, like other (...) (23 years ago, 17-Mar-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: AFOL? Please don't call me that.

See Frank I would call an AFOL!! I think Frank proves my point that there is a difference between being enthusiastic about LEGO the product (and building stuff), and then just being an enthusiast of building using LEGO. Don't get me wrong, I don't (...) (23 years ago, 17-Mar-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: AFOL? Please don't call me that.

(...) Being an active member of multiple fandoms, I must disagree with your characterisation of fans. SF fandom, in particular, is made up of people who revel in the term "fan". Actually, SF fandom and Lego fandom aren't all that different, when you (...) (23 years ago, 18-Mar-01, to lugnet.general)

Since I have seen several people on this thread using FOB to describe themselves, I just thought I would throw this in. I am a 'ham," or amateur radio operator (see my page on that: (URL) Every ham is issued a call sign, kind of like the call (...) (23 years ago, 18-Mar-01, to lugnet.general)
