I think it's outrageous that TLG isn't funding LUGnet.

There's merit to your suggestion.

But I think there's a faction who would say that it's a good thing that
TLC isn't funding it, as that helps keep LUGnet BY fans and FOR fans...
They'd say we can get the corporate line on lego.com (the corporate line
being that if you don't have shockwave, TLC doesn't care much about you,
I guess, but that's a different rant.)

Well, Todd has taken a hard line against perceived copyright infringements and
has banned profanity, so I don't think that LUGnet would be all that different
if it was in fact bankrolled by Lego.

Not That Larry Needs Defending™ [or Todd for that matter] but I'm dropping the
flag and calling a foul.  Since when does requiring a common-denominator of
civility and respect on one's own server make one a corporate shill?  Profanity
and copyright issues have nothing to do with the issue--that has to do with
covering one's rear end from liability.  If this place were bankrolled by TLG/C,
I'm sure entirely new problems would emerge--I'll leave it up to you to consider
how a full-time TLG presence in an administrative position here would affect
what's acceptable and what's not.

Everyone sees the closing margin of acceptability but few look at what we *do*
have here, and how very little has in fact been "lost" by our seeming cosiness
with TLG/C as of late.  If it means I can't swear or post potentially confidential
material, fine.  That's a good pair of rules (among others) for common politeness
anyhow, so it's no skin off my back.

So after I asked about how to help Brad deliver on what he promised,
there was a deafening silence from Brad and his vast army of helpers.

That's a shame, it really is. But I'm not surprised.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're reading and watching--now, whether or not
they're *listening*, that's open for debate.  Bureaucrats of the world, untie!

best

Lindsay
