I would imagine that the LEGO molds have been done on CAM for quite some
time...since the best way to make molds is using CAM, and has been for certanly
20 years or more now.
(as a aside, when did G and M codes come out?)

The 'best' way to cut a mold is using EDM (Electro Discharge Machining), which
is all CAM. If the CAM pattern still exists, then it is not all that hard to
make another mold, nor does it cost all that much.  (just the machine time)

Hmmm... when I worked at a plastic parts plant in Fowlerville, Michigan,
we had some new molds come in for the Dodge Neon Battery Box. The molds
where around a 2 foot cube (2'x2'x2'). They cost the company around
500,000 each, and we had two of them. I figure that LEGO molds are
around the same size. Unless they have interchangable molds (Put in
separate parts in the same mold), I think it would be a very costly
maneuver to make new molds.

Al Gore: "Even though national security policy didn't come up, I

Whose FINGER do you want on the CONTROL-ALT-DELETE button?"

These are the same people who sued MICROSOFT, folks. If he is that
ignorant about computers, he should not be anywhere near controlling
anything, much less the United States.
