But let me reiterate something stated in the first post: it’s going to take a
few months to get this really rolling. One of the reasons we’re announcing
this now (as opposed to when everything is ready to launch) is that we want to
get your input *before* we make some critical decisions.

Brad - here's a critical one - there is a need for a SuperBrick - an RCX brick
with many more I/O (like 8 as a minimum), for controlling trains, or very complex
robots/machines.

I know your Sales and Marketing guys were caught flatfooted on Mindstorms, simply
not expecting to sell so many, and so many of them to adults.  I can assure you
that if you bring out either a separate RCX SuperBrick (or RCX+, whatever), or a
separate kit, people would buy every one you produce - get ready for it, EXPECT
it.  I'd envision the same basic brick as now, but 8 or more I/O (which probably
means running some of the contacts on the sides/bottom), putting the AC adapter
plug back in, using the same parts mix as RIS 1.5, but adding in an extra motor, a
rotation sensor or 2, and another sensor or 2.  Sell it for $3-400.  It would sell
out, trust me ;-)

I doubt if I'd be wrong in saying that if you sold such a SuperBrick, most people
in most of the Lego train clubs would end up buying one (or more, for those nutsos
like, uh, well, ME) to help control complex train layouts and multiple trains.
That pretty much requires AC power, so if such an item IS considered, PLEASE ask
them to put the AC plug back in, and just charge us the extra money for it ;-)

This sounds fine to me. (Larry Pieniazek’s suggestion to archive earlier
postings to “dear-lego-old” also makes sense.) We’ll probably have to get some
legal clarification regarding product/concept suggestions (see the Legal
Notice on LEGO.com for a model).

Whoops.  Well, use the above idea anyways, I just want one built!  ;-)

I’ll be back soon with more. Until then, play well.

And a very Merry Christmas to you from all of us at LEGO.

You too!  And speaking of which, TLC needs to start producing Xmas ornaments each
year again ;-)

Well. Wow. What can I say? It certainly appears as if we have opened Pandora’s Bucket… First, allow me to thank you all for your overwhelmingly warm welcome. I can assure you, it is as thrilling to us to be able to make the announcement of LEGO (...) (25 years ago, 22-Dec-99, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.general, lugnet.announce) !
