Re: BrickDreams Update - New Scenes, Gear Model & Other Stuff (long)

(...) How big is the POV file? If its not that big, could you possibly email it to me and I'll render a large one myself (I could put it on brickshelf too for others to use, and/or you to snag and put in your gallery). I've got a PII400, 256mb ram, (...) (23 years ago, 31-Mar-01, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: BrickDreams Update - New Scenes, Gear Model & Other Stuff (long)

(...) Okay, I did a news search for that URL and based on context I'm guessing that there's some parts library there? Sorry if I'm ignorant to the LEGO cad universe...I'm a LEGO robotics guy, not a LEGO cad guy; I just happen to be proficient with (...)   Re: BrickDreams Update - New Scenes, Gear Model & Other Stuff (long)

(...) Scene #8 was nearly the death of me. Rendered at 1024x768, it took about 60 hours to complete, and I swear the model is cursed. The first time I tried to render it, I realized about 20 hours into it that the symmetrical lattices for the LEGO (...) (23 years ago, 31-Mar-01, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: BrickDreams Update - New Scenes, Gear Model & Other Stuff (long)

(...) Well, the gear *would* mesh properly with another identical gear, just not with an actual LEGO gear. The profile of the teeth is the next thing I'm going to tackle; they're the correct approximate dimensions, just lacking the subtle curves and (...) (23 years ago, 31-Mar-01, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: BrickDreams Update - New Scenes, Gear Model & Other Stuff (long)

(...) Modern 24T Technic gears don't have those 45 degree slots anymore, but yeah thanks for pointing out the misalignment on the teeth. They're actually offset 7.5 degrees; when I modeled it, I inadvertently centered the boolean intra-tooth cutout (...) (23 years ago, 31-Mar-01, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Hi Micah - Great work!! I'd love to have a copy of Scene 8 at 1280x1024 if possible, that would be great, thanks! -Tim (23 years ago, 31-Mar-01, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: BrickDreams Update - New Scenes, Gear Model & Other Stuff (long)

I hate to be picky, but the teeth aren't quite right. They should be involute profiles. Then they'll actually mesh with other gears : ) (23 years ago, 31-Mar-01, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: BrickDreams Update - New Scenes, Gear Model & Other Stuff (long)

(...) the 45 deg slots for axles near the edges. Gotta have those! Also, there should be a tooth centred above the Lego logo. Hard to tell from that angle, but it looks like it's not quite right..... Anyway, thats enough pedantism, I think! (...) (23 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.cad.ray)

BrickDreams Update - New Scenes, Gear Model & Other Stuff (long)

Well, I received quite a few responses to my site survey, and public opinion seems to sway towards the following trends: *Larger Scene Sizes - About half of all who responded indicated that they would make use of larger scene sizes. The largest and (...) (23 years ago, 30-Mar-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: BrickDreams Update: Scene #8 Released

(...) Well, you're in luck then. I plan to start releasing scenes in 1600x1200 in conjunction with the next site update. (23 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: BrickDreams Update: Scene #8 Released

I love these images, they are great. I know beggars can't be choosers, but I'd love it if you made 1600x1200 versions. They just don't scale to my desktop very well at the current sizes. awesome work, Derek (23 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Is thier a program to generate landscapes withen POV-Ray and smoke as well? I need a landscape and smoke for a scene I am going to do with some of my Scorpions and a pair of fighters of 'unknown origin'. Rick (23 years ago, 28-Mar-01, to lugnet.cad.ray)

  BrickDreams Update: Scene #8 Released

After several false starts and *60 hours* of render time, BrickDreams Scene #8 is finally finished. IMO it is my best one yet. Also, all of the other scenes on BrickDreams have been "re-mastered" from the original tiff file, and are now available on (...) (...) On second thought, I am working on another project in which it might be handy to have that converter. So I think I'll go with it. --Ryan (23 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Do I use Dat2AutoCAD or is there a better way?

(...) Thanks for the info. I did get help about ten days ago regarding this. I ended up being able to do what I wanted all in POV-Ray. But if ever I need that utility, now I know where to get it. Cheers, --Ryan (24 years ago, 25-Mar-01, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Do I use Dat2AutoCAD or is there a better way?

There's a DAT2DXF converter I have. Its a bit slow for larger models, but for your application it should work just fine. Let me know if you want it -Orion (24 years ago, 25-Mar-01, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.cad.ray)
