Why not a QuickTime or a Java VR. This is a really small one, but it shows what can be done. It has about 144 frames (12 side to side by 12 up and down). In other words, I want the settings in the file that aren't directly related to the model (camera, floor, lighting, etc) to be same across all the (...) Orion, I can sympathize. I still feel like I'm just stumbling through POV-RAY myself. May I suggest using L3P and L3P-Add-On (in case you're not already using them)? These help me tremendously. As far as camera angles go, I almost never use a height (...) (20 years ago, 5-Apr-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw)

(...) I've gotta agree here. It's not so much the distortion that's the problem, it's that the viewpoint is so high that you don't get a clear enough view of the sides. (...) Actually I was thinking about using a different rending technique every month. This month it was POV-Ray Jeroen's Radiosity Include. And I lied, next month won't be MLCad straight but LDGLite. (...) Yes, maybe it's a good idea to use MLCad straight, but the models look *so* much better when POV:ed, it's a pity not to do it... (...) Cylinders would not resolve every edge lines, at curved surfaces that would be a problem. There are comercial renderes that do that line and flat surface stuff. (...) This is so very true, and troublesome. POV-Ray does not support the concept of a line in 3D space, so L3P cannot directly translate LDraw lines to POV-Ray entities.
