Finally, my fair (if not terrible) first attempt at part authoring is ready for
submission (as soon as parts@ldraw.org lets me).

What a learning experience!  It took 12 version saves to get "close". And I'm
sure there's more to learn after the reviews come in.

First I wish to recognize Frank Cain and his s\41855s01.dat which served as the
basis for 47457. After stripping off the curved top, all that was left was
figuring out how to create a sloped and rounded 1x2 front end.  In my case, that
was definitely much easier said than done.

Anyway, for software tools, I used LDAO, L3Lab and MLCAD.

My resources were graphing paper, ruler, compass, calipers, similar
parts/printouts, a jig of plates, College Trig textbook, spot lamp, 10x loupe,
magnifying glass and 20+ hours of self-discovery.  After all this, my visiting
machinist brother-in-law tells me he has access to a granite-topped machine that
can caliper/score and derive slope/functions on any part.  Also, I can't wait
for him to send me a copy of a plastic laminated Machinist Quick Reference
Guide. What a sine from heaven!

I do have a few questions:

1. Parts 41855 and 47457 have 4 pairs of 1 LDU ridges/clips opposite on each
corner. s\41855s01 does not represent them.  Should it?  Is there a specific
primitive or do I use a cuboid to represent these ridges/clips in 47457?

2. To find the radius of the rounded end, I assume the curve is of a circle and
not an ellipse. Regardless, I needed a third point on the segment.
   I attached a 2x4 plate under 47457 and created a jig (a wall of 2x4s) to
square the caliper to the rounded edge (-30z).  The caliper is 10/64 wide
(-20z). So the measurement from the bottom of the plate (24y) to the top surface
of the curve gave me a third point for triangulating the center with a pair of
perpendicular bisectors.  What other way is there to do this?

3. MORE IMPORTANTLY, how to I get a good measurement on the inside curve?  My
caliper's wire tail is not pointed so I had to guess by adding 1 LDU.

Your critique please?

.
