I have been following all this, and the thread in lugnet.admin.general, and
would like to chime in a little.
Overall, I support this whole idea.  LCad as a mailing list has its share of
annoyances to me.  Perhaps a dedicated group here would be better.

Bram is a special case, as his access is via Juno.  Another special case I • know
of is James Jessimans mother.  Although I have not checked lately if she is
still subscribed to LCad, I assume she is.  And she has said before that she
follows along with what we do, and enjoys it.
It is my understanding that she is not technically savvy about all things
computer, so being able to continue getting LCad information by email is a
definite plus, as I don't know if she has any newsreader experience.
Now, whether she will be able to send a request to be added or if we would • need
to have Todd set it up "by hand" is unkown.

Good to hear from you on this one, and bravo for remembering James' mother.
If we formed a new group _and_ gatewayed L-cad to it, she would continue to
receive messages as usual.  Those who absolutely are unable or unwilling to
move over could still post via l-cad, though I would hope that would be a
small minority (in cases where l-cad goes down, we would lose them for a
while).

What is your opinion of how the group(s) should be structured?

I haven't really given it any thought.  I am flexible though, and I have
confidence in Todd's judgement on how to do it.  As long as I can get to it, I
am happy.

Speaking of James, I would hope that when Lugnet neighborhoods become a
reality, we could erect a memorial at the center of the ldraw neighborhood.
While I learned of Ldraw after his passing, I continue to be amazed at the
spirit he engendered among the people here.

That is a cool idea.  And I am sure the Jessiman family would appreciate it.
