I went through the lugnet.admin.general discussion on this topic.  Actually,
I had looked for such a thread but would not have found it under the
"Informal CFD..." heading had Todd not pointed it out to me.  (Todd, what
about putting new subjects in a new thread?  Perhaps with a link in the old
thread.)

The discussions centered around gatewaying the L-Cad list into a Lugnet ng.
But as Steve pointed out, that still leaves us with (exacerbates, in fact)
the problem of listserve glitches.  What I don't see is the point of using
the listserver at all.  If we can send and receive Lugnet messages as
e-mail, why stick an extra computer in the middle?

I'm also not sure about the value of a lugnet.cad.l-cad group separate for
lugnet.cad.  Maybe it's just me, but I don't see much difference between the
content of posts to L-cad and lugnet.cad, except that part voting
discussions are confined to L-cad.  A good percentage of lugnet.cad is
cross-posts from L-cad, like program announcements, web-page announcements,
model files (posted to lugnet.cad.dat, of course.  Perhaps the ongoing work
of Ldraw does deserve its own group, but the rest should be combined, IMHO.

So if L-Cad ever returns to life, I will propose the following:

Move all discussions to lugnet.cad (explaining that it can be subscribed to
just like a listserver).  Leave L-Cad for backward compatability (so
old-timers have a place to come back to) and periodically post to L-Cad an
explaination of the move.  The Ldraw FAQ would be updated to point to
lugnet.cad.

(...) Sorry about the subject-line confusion -- I agree, subject lines should be changed as appropriate. In this case, the L-CAD sub-topic was branched out of an original CFD on a robotics sub-group, and for a long spell, there were two (...) (26 years ago, 21-Jan-99, to lugnet.cad)
