[LDAO] Editor Feedback requested —Steve Bliss
Because of functionality Paul Gyugyi has added to LDLite, I've been working on a new editor for LDraw files which will work with LDLite to provide WYSIWYG[1] editing. Right now, the design concept for the editor is for it to be LEdit-compatible, (...) (26 years ago, 13-Nov-98, to lugnet.cad)

(...) Great! (...) Does this mean I would have to hit CTRL-arrow to move a piece insteaad of just arrow? (...) No! No! No! No! No! Please keep keyboard commands for modelers! (...) This would be friendly to beginning users and basic modelers, but (...) (26 years ago, 13-Nov-98, to lugnet.cad)

Re: [LDAO] Editor Feedback requested —Steve Bliss
(...) You are correct, sir! It's actually worse than that, because most of the ctrl- arrow, shift-arrow, and ctrl-shift-arrow keys are used in text editing. So the keystrokes to move the pieces would probably be taken from the keyboard. For example, (...) (26 years ago, 13-Nov-98, to lugnet.cad)

Re: [LDAO] Editor Feedback requested —Bram Lambrecht
(...) I think you should try to stick to the LEdit keys :) I like the idea of custom keys though. Another great thing would be to toggle Center-set on automatically before every turn. (I always use center-set) (...) Maybe this would be the best way. (...) (26 years ago, 14-Nov-98, to lugnet.cad)

Re: [LDAO] Editor Feedback requested —Mike Stanley
(...) Speaking as someone who would only ever use it as a modeler, I'm wondering why one program has to be all things to both groups? I know you're doing this gratis, and I understand that two separate programs would probably mean twice as many (...) (26 years ago, 13-Nov-98, to lugnet.cad)

Re: [LDAO] Editor Feedback requested —Steve Bliss
(...) Because I belong to both groups, and I'd rather use one program than two. More importantly, there is significant overlap in the functionality--all the moves, rotates, color change, etc. applies equally to modeling and authoring. The big (...) (26 years ago, 14-Nov-98, to lugnet.cad)

Re: [LDAO] Editor Feedback requested —Larry Pieniazek
(...) If there is core functionality that both programs use, make that functionality into reusable components, use a common code base and build two different executables. While VB is not the ideal language to do this in, it'll do, especially if (...) (26 years ago, 15-Nov-98, to lugnet.cad)

Re: [LDAO] Editor Feedback requested —Larry Pieniazek
(...) VB is a faster language if what you want is writing poorly structured, hard to maintain code. Having to go to another language is damning. The bugginess of Java does not at all compare to trying to debug a VB problem. Been there, done that, (...) (26 years ago, 16-Nov-98, to lugnet.cad)

Try Borland C++ Builder 3. Version 1 does have some quirks, but v3 is much better. C++ in a RAD environment. Very VB-like in you place everything on forms, and create the UI extremely fast. The Standard version should be available for $99 which (...) (26 years ago, 17-Nov-98, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: [LDAO] Editor Feedback requested —Matthew Marshall
Sounds intresting but, I just shelled out a ton of money for Visual Studio 6.0, not in the mood to buy anything else right now(1). Plus I have a strong disagreement with Borland, I just plain out don't like them, I prefer MS products(2) myself. Plus (...) (26 years ago, 17-Nov-98, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
