I would agree. I’ve never had a chance to try LPub before, but recently I’ve been experimenting with the Mac version (built from Sourceforge for now) and I’m quite pleased with what I’ve been able to create:

Some other experiments can be seen here and here.

Some aspects of the popup menu interface weren’t immediately clear to me, honestly, but it’s not too hard to figure out and definitely worth the effort if you’re interested in LDraw. I think Kevin has put a lot of work into this useful tool.

Firstly, I am seriously impressed with this Alpha version of LPub. Usability is fabulous - I was never a big user of previous versions but I’m already hooked by this release.

One thing I’m curious about: how did Jim include the cover page for his instruction set? I’ve played around with “LPUB PAGE INSERT pngimagename” with no luck. I can use my PNG as a background, but it then appears for all pages. I really want to use it once on the first page.

I’m also assuming I can’t suppress page numbers on what would then be a cover page?

Martin

Hi Martin, Thanks so much for the feedback about LPub 4.

Jim used a separate tool to add the cover page to his instructions.

INSERT meta is not yet supported in LPub4. Arbitrary pages, bill of materials, inserting pictures, and reserving space in callouts and step groups is not supported yet.

I want the concept of arbitrary pages, and suppressing page numbers on them, as part of the future of LPub.

Kevin

(...) Ah right, thanks Kevin. As I said, it's a great tool already and you sound like you have great plans for it too. Martin (16 years ago, 2-Jul-08, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

(...) Yeah, I cheated a bit. I made the cover page in a separate program and added it to the instructions PDF with (URL) PDFLab>. It sounds like great things are still in store for LPub, which is neat because it's already come so far. Jim (16 years ago, 2-Jul-08, to lugnet.cad, FTX)
