tighter curves, maybe even knots.

Those are definitely advantages toward Larry's file.  We should probably
integrate Larry's code into my subfile, one way or the other.

One way to integrate the part files would be to submit Larry's file as a a
subfile, in parts\s\, and have the file I wrote reference Larry's file.  This
would be the least work.

Another way would be to replace my code with Larry's code, and change the string
parts to use more references to Larry's code.  This would follow standards more
closely, in the sense that people could manipulate their string parts by working
only with files in the parts directory.  In method #1, they couldn't 'bend' the
segments of strings without going after the parts\s\ files directly.

From a practical POV, people are probably going to use LSynth and MLCAD to
manipulate their string parts, so the organization of the composite part files
won't matter so much -- LSynth doesn't reference composite files (unless I
missed an update).

And FWIW I have spiderman hanging from a white string right in front
of me, so the color should be removed from the string element.

Ok, so that's black, green, and white.  Peeron mentions a brown string, and red
(but it looks like cotton, not nylon).  Anyone know of other colors?

(...) For POV-Ray, it seems like the best results would be obtained through some kind of mapping. Use a plain cylinder object with 'string texture' mapped onto it. Steve (19 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)
