parts?  IMHO no!

I understand your point, but I think that it's a bad idea to release an official
part that's guaranteed to look wrong in all current renderers.  All that's going
to do is confuse the novice users, and I think that's a really bad idea.

I'm not saying the color shouldn't ever be used, I just don't think it should be
used yet.  In this case, the current color seems reasonable for the short term
(dark gray dithered with dark gray).  However, I wasn't aware of LDraw's
behavior with colors, so it could be that other renderers already behave the
same, and would look fine with the new official color.  My next LDView release
will mimic LDraw's handling of colors with colors that it doesn't have another
definition for.

OK, so that's saying that the LDraw organisation is going to ignore new Lego
colours?  Isn't this a bit of a "head in the sand" approach?  Whatever your own
personal view on LEGO's new colour palette, ignoring it does not seem to be a
viable option IMHO.

Actually, no I'm not saying that.  As a matter of fact, I don't personally think
strict LDraw compliance is a good idea any longer.  I was just pointing out that
it was my understanding that it was still being required.

(...) Ah, but according to the Colour Chart ((URL) "LDraw can render mixes of the basic 16 colors. This is commonly called 'dithering'. You can use dithered colors for any part reference, but part authors cannot use them to color polygons or lines. (...) (20 years ago, 10-Oct-04, to lugnet.cad)
