  RE: New LDraw.org Books Page

First let me say that I got the book as soon as it was available and have read the entire thing. I am a moderate level user of Ldraw and MLCad. I also had experience with L3P, but I was used to using L3PAO for that. I have done POV Ray as well, but (...) (22 years ago, 11-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw)

(...) appearance of the chrome bits is a positive or negative thing. On the one hand it suggests a true mirror-like finish; on the other hand it might be nice to get just a bit more detail out of those particular elements in the structure. The (...) (22 years ago, 15-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

  10026 Naboo Fighter SE Render

I rendered a picture of the 10026 using the cust_inc files with full radiosity. Since it took 27 hours to finish on my P3 500, I'm going to share the picture so that my wait wasn't wasted on just me. This one was rendered in 17 hr using the old (...) (22 years ago, 15-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Are the illustrations for the modeler's book series created with Ldraw compatible software?

(...) Thanks, Jaco. What I meant is "what is a gooved tile?" When I look them up, they look like regular tiles. Where there LGEO grooved tiles in 1999? (22 years ago, 14-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: First Lego Classics poster ready (at last!)

Hej Jeroen, thx for the credits!! I'm surprised you used the LGEO library for this, since in my view more realism can be achieved by the 'normal' LDRAW brickset together with a 'seam' between bricks. But anywayz: nice work! happy renderings! (22 years ago, 14-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.cad.dat.models)

Re: Proposal: New Part Numbering System

(...) ...snip. Well I consider a common parts numbering system to be totally nessesary. I have spent the last 4 months counting and cataloging my collection. For the most part I have used LDraw number because that was what I had first. I have to (...) (22 years ago, 14-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.db.inv, lugnet.db.brictionary)

  .INC files for radiosity updated

Hi all, I updated the radiosity files today. The sysem is somewhat simpler: the files are called radio_0.inc (no radiosity), radio_1.inc (simple radiosity), radio_2.inc (medium quality) and radio_3.inc (high quality). There are also c-versions which (...) (22 years ago, 13-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: A few ideas to toss around.

(...) Actually, a much better solution would be to scrap POV altogether and go with Blender or something of the kind (URL) reasoning behind it is that POV is the worst possible way of learning 3D rendering. Placing the lights illustrates why very (...) (22 years ago, 13-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: A few ideas to toss around.

(...) That's how the current light.dat works. You set the colour of the light by the part colour, and that means you can set the brightness of the light by the brightness of the colour. I have tried this and it works pretty well. Cheers Allister (22 years ago, 13-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Are the illustrations for the modeler's book series created with Ldraw compatible software?

Re: Are the illustrations for the modeler's book series created with Ldraw compatible software?

(...) I don't think they used LDraw -- unless LGEO has textures mapped on sloped parts. Also, the tiles are grooved, LDraw's tiles weren't grooved in 1999. Steve (22 years ago, 13-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: A few ideas to toss around.

(...) Well I think it's a good idea, and can't see any reason it wouldn't work - you could even use the part colour to set the light colour. The only limitation I can see is how to set the brightness of the light, but perhaps that doesnt matter too (...) (22 years ago, 13-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Are the illustrations for the modeler's book series created with Ldraw compatible software?

I must say that now I have the book in hand, the images are deffinately rendered. You can, like you said, cleary make that out from the shadows. I doubt though the used LDraw, for the book I have (Animals) dates back to 1999. One other possibility (...) (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)
