Well, that’s weird. My original message said:

How about making each black triangle a 4/3/4?

But you’re copy of it said:

How about making each black triangle a 4/3/3?

I wonder how that got mixed up? < shrug >

Anyway, back to my original idea. The reason I had suggested 4/3/4 was based on Phillippe’s formula of 4/3.5/3.5 -- 4+3.5+3.5=11 and 4+3+4=11 also. It may be a too simplistic approach to this type of problem, but the arithmetic caught my attention.

The other problem is since I’m using the 1x4 hinge plates, if you go shorter than four studs on a side of the triangle you have to come up with a different triangle design...

I thought of that after my original post. One avenue of approach would be to add an extra plate layer underneath the black 4/3 sides within the pentagon (provided it can actually form that shape).

I think ‘bigger’ is the way to go on this one. *grin*

With Lego, I’m always trying to go ‘smaller’ i.e. how small can you go and still get away with it. Partly it’s a joy in simplicity, partly a lack of parts (hence my articulated horse).

Of course, if you’ve already tried 4/3/4 without success, then this whole message is moot. ;)

I changed it, because I was thinking you meant that each of the black triangles would have one side of length 4 (that connects to the white hexagon), and two sides of length 3 (that connect to the two ajoining black triangles within the (...) (...) Or you can go simpler: if you suppress the triangles inside the pentagon, the problem disappear! But the structure may look somewhat hollow... Philo (21 years ago, 16-Sep-03, to lugnet.build.sculpture, FTX)
