You say in brickshelf text “But for some reason I didn’t realize that the flat faces of the pentagons would line up with the ajoining hexagon” Actually the problem is that triangle in the pentagons should not be equilateral. The vertices inside the triangle should be shorter than outside vertices , 3.4 studs instead of 4 to be precise. I think that if you manage to build triangles that are 4 studs / 3.5 studs / 3.5 studs, the resulting thing will be much closer to a soccer ball (truncated icosaedron)

(...) Yup, I realize that now. Holding the big ball in your hands can really make those ideas clear! The problem is, how to do it within the limits of the "Lego System"? I want to experiment with other triangle sizes, and see what happens and what (...) (21 years ago, 15-Sep-03, to lugnet.build.sculpture, FTX)

Inspired by Steve DeCraemer's (URL) S.P.U.> (picture by Rob Hendrix) first shown at Brickfest 2003, I decided to build a bigger version.
