So other people can see how you put something together, not just how the
finished product looks.  Also, LCAD models can be rendered from any view
with any background and always completely in focus.  Photographing models
requires good lighting, a good camera, a good backdrop, etc...

IMO, having to pick and choose bricks based on
what's in your collection is part of the building challenge.

I agree--and I built just about every model you see on my web site.  I
find it difficult to add lots of details and interesting construction
methods when working virtually only.  However, I think that by
translating my models into CAD, I can share the designs much more
effectively.  Also, if sometime after disassembling a model I decide I'd
like to build it again, I can refer to the DAT file I created for the
model.

At any rate, as above, it
takes much of the challenge out of building.

I think it would be almost impossible to build a mecha virtually without
at least building parts of it IRL.  So, in that case, the virtual
construction is the more challenging.
I think LCAD expands possibilities--it allows you to recreate all the
models you can actually build, but also lets you build way beyond your
available resources.  For example, I'd have difficulty building a
decent-sized skyscraper with my collection, but with LDraw, I can design
as many interesting and towering skyscrapers as I want.
